We acknowledge that Alder & Company is located on the unceded, traditional, ancestral, and sacred lands of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples . Since time immemorial the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples have cared for these lands and fostered relationships with them. The water, the trees, and the land have all witnessed the journey of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples, and have witnessed their stories, their laughter, and their trauma.

Alder & Company is a program development and facilitation business that helps programs run smoothly. We can be a part of every stage of the planning process, including program coordination, community engagement, recruitment, development, testing and facilitation. We also support one-day facilitated projects that have already been developed by outside organizations.
Alder & Company Name:
We named our business after the Alder tree. While out on a nature walk, Erika learned about the Alder tree from a teacher. It is one of the first plants to grow after the land has been damaged. It breathes nitrogen back into the soil, helping repair the conditions so future plants can grow.
This made us think about how people came before us to pave the way for uncomfortable conversations to happen, for change to occur, so that our business could exist. Now we aspire to be like the Alder tree, continuing the work of those that came before us and creating conditions for more growth to happen around us and in our communities.
Who is & Company?
And Company are all of our teachers, whose lessons come into every space with us. This includes organisations, people, teachers and our communities.
All of the participants in our program co-create spaces with us. Without their voices and their energy, we would not be able to do what we do. They are an invaluable partner in all of our programs. Each person brings in unique experiences and dreams for the world that help all of our learning. Without their voices and their creative vulnerability, our programs would not run.
And lastly, the & Company includes Erika Doehring and Liam Grigg, the founders of Alder & Co.
